Most of the thrilling action scenes occur in the last 40 minutes, including a well-executed evacuation of trapped passengers and a number of chases aboard the cruiser involving courageous Annie and Alex and sociopath Geiger. There's not much room inside the head of a golf club (even a wood), so why waste space on a digital read-out? I also chortled a few moments later, when the villain pulled out a piece of equipment labeled FIBER OPTIC CONVERTER in letters so large they could be read across the room. And I will long treasure a moment when a computer asks Geiger, "Time to initiate?'' and he types in, "Now.'' Is the movie fun?
Audience Reviews
Many interior scenes aboard the ship were shot on soundstages in the Greater Los Angeles Area. Mark Mancina returned to compose the film score, released as an album 13 years after the film's release. Eminent critic Roger Ebert defended the film, calling it a "truly rousing ocean liner adventure story". The film was also a box-office bomb, earning $164 million worldwide against a production budget as high as $160 million. It was nominated for eight Golden Raspberry Awards, winning the Worst Remake or Sequel category.

The system is a servomechanism that takes over the car's throttle to maintain a steady speed set by the driver. While the central couple and the other vacationers enjoy an evening ball, during which lounge singer Sheri Silver (Tamia) entertains, John Geiger (Willem Dafoe), a mad computer mastermind, orchestrates a nasty takeover. The motivation for his destructive act is explained in a series of hit-and-miss confrontations (and phone conversations) with Annie and Alex. It turns out Geiger is a disgruntled genius, an employee who was laid off because of his terminal illness. Lacking the manipulative structure of “Speed,” which shrewdly interspersed rousing set pieces throughout the story, “Speed 2” is vastly uneven, trying in its second hour to recoup energy and compensate the audience for all the exposition of the initial reels.

Seabourn Legend crew
On an engine, the governor uses centrifugal force to adjust the throttle position to adapt the engine's speed to different loads (e.g., when going up a hill). The 59-year-old has featured in a wide range of super successful films, including the likes of The Blind Side and The Lost City. There’s also Drew (Christine Firkins), a hearing-impaired girl with an adolescent crush on Alex. Drew’s dramatic purpose is to be offended by her insensitive dad so that she can run away — and get trapped in an elevator in the midst of the crisis. And the ship’s crew displays multicultural flavor, including Capt. Pollard (Scandinavian Bo Svenson), officer Juliano (New Zealander Temuera Morrison) and navigator Merced (Scottish Brian McCardie). I will observe, however, that it's not every day (unless you live in New Orleans) that you get to see a ship crashing into a pier.

Especially when the desperate Bullock breaks into a ship's supply cabinet and finds a chainsaw, which I imagine all ships carry. And when pleasure boaters somehow fail to see a full-size runaway ocean liner until it is three feet from them. Movies like this embrace goofiness with an almost sensual pleasure. Automatic braking systems use either a single or a combination of sensors (radar, lidar, and camera) to allow the vehicle to keep pace with the car it is following, slow when closing in on the vehicle in front, and accelerate to the preset speed when traffic allows. Some systems also feature forward collision warning systems, which warn the driver if a vehicle in front—given the speed of both vehicles—gets too close within the preset headway or braking distance. The driver must manually bring the vehicle up to speed and use a button to set the cruise control to the current speed.
The crew notices that Geiger has set the ship to crash into an oil tanker off the coast of Saint Martin. Alex decides to stop the ship by diving underneath it and jamming the propeller with a steel cable. Geiger realizes that Alex is trying to stop the ship, so he jams the cable winch while Alex is underwater, causing it to break off the ship and free the cable. Geiger takes Annie hostage and escapes with her on a boat from the ship's stern.
Speed 2: Cruise Control Full Movie Movies Anywhere
Speed control existed in early automobiles such as the Wilson-Pilcher in the early 1900s. Using a speedboat and a helicopter, the final hunt is fast-paced, offering the kind of jolt audiences will eagerly embrace. Aboard the ship, deranged passenger John Geiger, a former employee of the cruise company, hacks into the ship's computer system, and the following evening, he sabotages the ship's communication systems and kills Captain Pollard.

The special effects sequences in the movie are first-rate, especially that one. I know some of the houses on shore were models and that all kinds of fancy techniques were used, but the progress of the ship, as it crushes piers and condos, restaurants and trucks and cars, looks surprisingly real. And I was grateful to Jan De Bont, director of this film and the first one, for not overlooking such touches as The Dog Who Survives. Speed 2 falls far short of its predecessor, thanks to laughable dialogue, thin characterization, unsurprisingly familiar plot devices, and action sequences that fail to generate any excitement. However, there is one movie from her illustrious career that Bullock regrets starring in.
(The dialogue explains that she split up with the Keanu Reeves character from the earlier film for a lot of reasons, one of them possibly being that he did not want to appear in the sequel). They go on a cruise, and are unlucky enough to pick the boat targeted for revenge by a villain named Geiger (Willem Dafoe), whose laptop computers can take over the ship's own systems and control them. Cruise control is less flexible on vehicles with a manual transmission because depressing the clutch pedal and shifting gears usually disengages the cruise control.
She finds out that Alex is on the SWAT team after he lied and told her that he was a beach officer. As an apology, Alex surprises her with a Caribbean cruise on Seabourn Legend. While the actor has expressed in the past how pleased she was to be involved with The Lost City, she did reveal on a promotional tour for the movie one flick she is 'still embarrassed' about to this day. De Bont had the idea for the film after he had a recurring nightmare about a cruise ship crashing into an island. Speed star Keanu Reeves was initially supposed to reprise his role as Jack Traven for the sequel, but decided not to commit and was replaced by Patric before filming. The writers had to rework the script to accommodate the addition of a new character. Production took place aboard Seabourn Legend, the ship on which the film is set. The final scene, in which the ship crashes into the island of Saint Martin, cost almost a quarter of the budget, and set records as the largest and most expensive stunt ever filmed.
The cruise control takes its speed signal from a rotating driveshaft, speedometer cable, wheel speed sensor from the engine's RPM, or internal speed pulses produced electronically by the vehicle. Most systems do not allow the use of the cruise control below a certain speed - typically around 25 or 30 mph (40 or 48 km/h). The vehicle will maintain the desired speed by pulling the throttle cable with a solenoid, a vacuum-driven servomechanism, or by using the electronic systems built into the vehicle (fully electronic) if it uses a 'drive-by-wire' system. The throttle position was automatically adjusted by a vacuum control that opened and closed the throttle based on input from the speedometer cable rather than through an adjustable control on the dashboard.[10][11] The unit would shut off anytime the brakes were applied. The movie stars Sandra Bullock, from "Speed", and Jason Patric as her boyfriend.
However, they will not apply the brakes in the event of overspeeding downhill, nor stop the car from going faster than the selected speed even with the engine just idling. On the latest vehicles fitted with electronic throttle control, cruise control can be integrated into the vehicle's engine management system. Modern "adaptive" systems include the ability to automatically reduce speed when the distance to a car in front, or the speed limit, decreases.
The "resume" feature has to be used each time after selecting the new gear and releasing the clutch. Therefore, cruise control is most beneficial at motorway/highway speeds when top gear is used virtually all the time. Cruise control (also known as speed control, cruise command, autocruise, or tempomat) is a system that automatically controls the speed of an automobile.
Alex jumps off, uses a speed boat, and pursues Geiger to a seaplane. Alex shoots at it from the boat with a speargun and reels himself in through the water. He climbs onto the plane, rescues Annie, and both escape from the plane on one of its floats, which falls onto the ocean. Geiger attempts to fly over the oil tanker, but the plane becomes impaled on the ship's foremast, causing both to explode. The tanker crew however are safe, having launched their lifeboat just in time, leaving Geiger to die in the ensuing explosion. Annie and Alex travel back to shore in the speed boat, and he gives her an engagement ring, asking her if she will "wear this for a while", and she accepts.
